When You Just Can’t, Don’t: Why Rest Is the Real Power Move

Let’s be honest. Sometimes, you just can’t.
You can’t post. You can’t produce. You can’t force it.
And you know what? That’s okay.

Last week, I hit that wall. My brain said “go,” but every cell in my body screamed “nope.” I had zero creative energy for social media, and still, that little voice whispered “you should post, you’ll fall behind, people will forget about you.”

Here’s the truth bomb that hit me like a freight train of freedom:
👉 When you own who you are, you no longer have to force it.

So, I didn’t.
I didn’t post. I didn’t show up online. I didn’t hustle.
And guess what? Nothing bad happened.

My clients still had breakthroughs.
Referrals still came in.
I even sent out the biggest proposal of my business without a single post.

Turns out, the world doesn’t fall apart when you rest — it actually expands.

The Real Recipe for Getting Out of a Funk

We’ve been sold this lie that when you’re stuck, you just need to “push through.”
But pushing harder when you’re drained is like hitting the gas on an empty tank.
You’re not going anywhere faster — you’re just burning fumes.

Here’s the 3-step recipe I use (and teach my clients) to get out of a funk faster:

  1. Acknowledge It.
Say it out loud: I don’t want to right now. That’s it. No drama.

  2. Trust Yourself Enough to Step Back.
You won’t burn down your business by resting. You will burn down your energy by ignoring yourself.

  3. Nurture Yourself Out of It.
Not guilt. Not “shoulds.” Not endless self-critique.
Do what feels nourishing — the walk, the facial, the long talk with your sister. That’s what brings you back to life.

Self-Trust Is the Shortcut to Clarity

Self-trust isn’t just a mindset. It’s a muscle.
It’s the quiet knowing that when you step back, your momentum will still be there waiting for you.

When you own who you are, you stop guilting yourself through the funk and start loving yourself through it.
And that? That’s where clarity lives.

Because here’s the kicker:
You can’t process how you feel if you’re also judging yourself for feeling it.

You are not behind. You are not broken.
You’re just human — and humans need space to breathe.

Breaking Your Own Rules

The best part about running your own business?
You make the rules. Which also means — you get to break them.

Last week, I remembered: My business exists to support my life, not the other way around.
And maybe that’s your reminder too.

So, if you just can’t today?
Don’t.

Not because you’re lazy.
Because you’re leading.

When you pause, you give your power space to regenerate — and your next move will come from alignment, not obligation.

This post was inspired by an episode of Simply Own It, straight from the heart (and the funk).
In it, I share how giving yourself permission to not do the thing can be the most productive move you make all week — and how self-trust is the key to getting your spark back.
